Disease "Swimmer's Ear", What's That?


OUTER ear infection (otitis externa) is an infection or inflammation caused by scratches from the objects or water into the ear canal. This disease generally attacks children, especially those who swim hobby. Therefore, this disease is also called swimmer's ear.

Ear is the sense of hearing that the structure is divided into three areas, namely outer ear, middle, and deep. External ear skin of our skin and covering the area of the ear canal to the eardrum.

Area includes the middle ear to the eardrum into the house almost a snail. While covering the inner ear to the house in snails. Infection can occur in the third place, but most often it's outside ear.

The most common bacteria that causes inflammation is teling staphylococcus and Pseudomonas. Those who suffer from diabetes are more susceptible to this infection.

Outer ear inflammatory disease can be recognized from the following symptoms:
- The itching and feeling full on the ear.

- Characteristic of this disease is a pain when you chew or press the outer ear.
- Temporary hearing loss.

Inflammation of external ear infections are basically harmless and can heal themselves within a few days. How quickly depends on the type of treatment and severity of infection and the factors causing the infection.

Yet the doctor immediately if any pain or pain in the ear still persist for more than three days. Beware also accompanied by fever infections in children.

Treatment is usually with oral antibiotics, can also contain antibiotic ear drops to get rid of bacteria. If the cause is fungal, given antifungal. Often doctors also prescribe respiratory salve, antihistamines, or pain relief as required.

Patients are advised to rest to improve the condition of the body, drink lots of water, six to eight glasses per day-especially if there is fever. The ears must be kept dry.
